Project Overview:
Chestnut is a popular, locally beloved café and restaurant in Australia, known for its warm ambiance, delicious food, and exceptional customer service. Despite its strong presence in the community, Chestnut's digital presence was severely lacking. The old website was outdated, visually unappealing, and did little to convey the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant or its unique offerings. The website lacked key features, like intuitive navigation and an integrated ordering system, which made it difficult for customers to fully engage with the brand online.
The team at Chestnut recognised that a modern, well-designed website could not only enhance their brand's digital presence but also streamline the customer experience. With this in mind, Chestnut decided to overhaul its online platform, transitioning to a fresh, modern design that would reflect the restaurant's quality, values, and commitment to a great customer experience.
The Problem:
Before the redesign, the Chestnut website had several challenges that impacted user experience and brand perception:
Outdated Design and Basic Functionality:
The old website had an old look and feel. It was basic and static, offering little visual engagement for users. It failed to showcase the vibrant atmosphere of the café or provide an immersive experience for customers looking to explore Chestnut’s offerings.
Lack of Clear Navigation:
The old website lacked intuitive navigation, making it difficult for users to find the information they were looking for, such as the menu, opening hours, or details about ordering.
No Integrated Ordering System:
The restaurant was using a third-party plugin for online ordering, which not only made the ordering process cumbersome but also detracted from the cohesive brand experience.
Confusing “Get a Quote” Process:
The process of requesting a quote for catering services was convoluted, with no clear instructions or simple method for users to receive accurate pricing.
Static Menu Presentation:
The menu was not integrated into the website, and it was presented in a simple, hard-to-read format. Customers had trouble understanding the full range of offerings, ingredients, and pricing.
Lack of Visual Content:
The older website didn’t leverage any visuals to communicate the restaurant’s atmosphere or its dishes. This limited the ability to engage visitors or build excitement for dining experiences.
Chestnut needed a website that would better reflect its brand identity, streamline customer interactions, and provide a more engaging and intuitive experience for online visitors.

The Solution:
To address these challenges, the Chestnut team partnered with us to redesign their website using the Wix platform. Our approach focused on improving design, user experience, functionality, and visual storytelling. The key elements of the redesign included:
Modern Design Update – A Fresh, Inviting Look:
We started by completely overhauling the website’s visual design, creating a modern, visually-rich experience that would better align with Chestnut’s brand identity:
Updated Aesthetic: The new design incorporated a warm, inviting colour palette and high-quality images of the restaurant’s dishes and atmosphere, reflecting the restaurant’s cozy yet contemporary vibe. The design made use of elegant fonts, minimalistic layouts, and striking visuals of the food and dining area.
Mobile-First Design: The website was designed with mobile users in mind, ensuring that the site was fully responsive and easily navigable on smartphones and tablets, which is critical given the increasing number of customers browsing and ordering food on mobile devices.
Clear Visuals: We added high-quality images of signature dishes, beverages, and the restaurant’s welcoming interior, providing an engaging visual experience that entices customers to visit or order online.
Sitemap and Navigation Update – Clear and Intuitive Structure:
One of the primary improvements was to simplify the website’s structure and make navigation much more user-friendly:
Logical Sitemap: The sitemap was reorganised to make it easier for customers to find information. We clearly defined sections like “Menu,” “Online Ordering,” “Get a Quote,” “About Us,” & “Contact Information”.
Simplified "Get a Quote" Process – Clear and Streamlined:
Previously, the "Get a Quote" process was unclear and confusing. We revamped this system to make it user-friendly:
Easy-to-Fill Forms: We simplified the form to gather only essential information from customers (such as event type, number of guests, and dietary preferences), streamlining the process.
Clear Instructions: We added step-by-step instructions to guide customers through the process, ensuring they understood how to request a quote and what to expect.
Fast Response Times: The new system automatically sent a confirmation email, followed by a prompt follow-up from Chestnut’s team with an estimated quote based on the customer’s input.
Integrated Menu Display – User-Friendly and Informative:
The menu was restructured and displayed as an integrated part of the website, making it easier for users to browse:
Dynamic, Interactive Menu: The new menu was built directly into the website using a dynamic layout. Items were clearly separated by category (breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, etc.), with each dish accompanied by a mouthwatering photo, description, ingredients list, and pricing.
Dietary Information: We made sure to include dietary information, such as gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options, helping customers make more informed choices.

The Results:
The redesign of Chestnut’s website had an immediate and measurable impact:
Increased Online Orders: The integrated online ordering system led to a sharp increase in online orders, as customers now found it easier to browse the menu, customize their orders, and complete the checkout process.
Improved User Engagement: The more intuitive navigation and engaging visual elements resulted in a higher average time spent on the site and a noticeable decrease in bounce rates. Visitors were more likely to browse through the full menu and take advantage of the easy-to-access quote request feature.
Enhanced Brand Image: The new, modern design successfully reflected Chestnut’s unique blend of casual charm and high-quality cuisine, which enhanced the restaurant’s brand image both online and offline.
Positive Customer Feedback: Customers praised the website for being easy to navigate and loved the interactive elements that allowed them to get a full experience of what Chestnut had to offer.

The Chestnut restaurant/café website redesign not only transformed the online presence of the business but also provided a more streamlined, user-friendly experience for both customers and restaurant staff.
